Born Wicked is the first book in the Cahill Witch Chronicles, a new young adult series written by Jessica Spotswood. I'll be honest, I was skeptical about this book. Young adult? Witches? Puh-lease. I was pleasantly surprised once I read it, though.
Set in in late 1800's, early 1900's, Born Wicked is the tale of Cate Cahill and her two sisters, Maura and Tess, who are all witches. They live with their father in a small community located near New London. Because of the Brotherhood, a local group of religious elders hellbent on ridding the town of all witches, the girls' true witch identity is kept secret. This becomes harder and harder as the story progresses. Between marrying (but which man?) and joining the Sisterhood, a group of women similar to the Brotherhood but with their own agenda, Cate has choices even I would never wish to make.
Even though I wasn't keen on the story when I first started reading the book, with the cliffhanger ending Spotswood gave us, I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. I just don't know if I can wait that long, 2013? Really? Argh!
I would strongly suggest reading Born Wicked to anyone. Read it today and join the discussion over at BlogHer.
